Walter Lee Grier, Jr.

10/08/1965 - 06/23/2021

Obituary For Walter Lee Grier, Jr.

By fall of 1965, October 8th, a bouncing baby boy was presented to the late Dorothy Ingram and Walter Grier Sr. of Ft. Pierce, Florida. Walter Lee Grier Jr. was energetic and happy, but very quiet. He loved to play baseball and watch TV. By 6 years old, he even had a horse!

As he grew through adolescence, he was very athletic and adventurous. He continued his sports endeavors, but also loved to ride bikes and race horses down the banks of Taylor Creek! He loved interacting with his cousins – when it came to fun, he was the ringleader. He spent lots of time with his older cousins exploring his rambunctious side. Even though he playfully teased, Walter Jr. was a protector.

Walter Jr. attended St. Lucie County public schools and excelled in sports at Westwood High School, where he graduated with the class of 1984. He was known as “G Speed.” He attended college in Iowa (Hawkeyes), Kansas (Fort Hays State), and Arizona (Eastern Arizona) before pursuing a career in professional football. He traveled the country participating in various camps, tryouts and combines over the years, before returning home to care for his mother Dorothy.

Once he returned home, he began a career as a logistics specialist with a nationwide beverage company. Walter Jr. worked for over 20 years in logistics before transitioning to longshoreman work at the Ports of Canaveral. He held several positions and certifications at the time of his passing.

Walter Jr. was a dedicated father who loved and provided for his children. He enjoyed traveling, cars, restaurants, and visiting family and friends. He was a man of style and was known around the city, country, and the world! All who knew and encountered him loved his kind spirit, jovial personality, and… his big heart! He will be missed by many whom he touched!

His legacy lives on through his children Julian Grier, Alexia Grier, Bryce Grier, Paris Grier, Brandon Grier, Megan Spivey, and Amira Mobley; brother Roderic Grier (Joycelyn, Shaylyn, Eric); sisters Wandrea Grier (Brian), Stephanie Hough (Kent, Joyia, Desiree, Gabriella); great niece Bri'Ajah McMillan; God daughter Jayla Allen; and a host of other family including aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and friends

Funeral Services for Walter Grier, Jr. will convene on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL beginning at 1:00pm. Burial will immediately follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Although many venues have opened and the restrictions of COVID-19 have been relaxed, we at Stone Brothers Funeral Homes are still enforcing the guidelines set forth by the CDC and FDOH to protect our families and our staff.
