On Sunday, June 20, 2021, God in His infinite wisdom called our beloved, Minister Clarence LeBreque Hairston home at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Breque, as he was fondly known was born November 16, 1957 in Danville, Virginia, the second child of three to Pastor Clarence Hairston, Jr. and Mrs. Annie “Delois” Strader Hairston, who predeceased him. Breque was a 1976 graduate of George Washington High School and was known for his athletic ability in track. He was a self employed Behavioral Specialist. A member of the Bennett Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, he served as a licensed Minister of the Gospel and would often assist on the keyboard when visiting. His genuine love for music, afforded him the opportunity to be on Sunday’s Best, play for the Blind Boys and the Gospel Keynotes, as well as assisting with many groups and churches in the Virginia and North Carolina area. He currently served as Minister of Music at the First Baptist Church, South Boston, Virginia.

On, July 6, 2019, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Janet Thompson, she was the apple of his eye.

Breque loved his family, he visited his father every day, and never left without kissing him on the forehead saying, “love you Big Daddy.” His father was his role model and inspiration. Along with his love for life, he loved to dress.

Forever cherishing his memories are a loving and devoted wife, Janet Hairston; his father, Pastor Clarence Hairston, Jr.; one son, DiShaun Hairston (Ebony); two daughters, Tamra Hairston and Marlika Hairston; one stepdaughter, Britney Walton; a “partner in crime” sister, Minister Gina Williams (Charles); two brothers, Pastor Voight F. Hairston (Robin), Shammua Hairston (Naivasha); three sisters-in-law, Pearl Wilkerson (Howard), Patricia Blackwell (Marlin) and Minister Joann Joyce (Richard), two brothers-in-law, David Howard (Jane) and Danny Howard (Cynthia); three aunts, Dorothy Brantley (Jerome), Kay Eason (Ernest) and Leola Poulson (Ron); two uncles, Pastor Curtis J. Strader, Sr. (Jean) and Carl Wagstaff (Zeldeliea); eight grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and two fur babies, China and Boss.

To the Hairston Family, I'm sorry to hear about the passing of LeBreque. He always greeted me with a big smile and hug. My grandma Hattie loved to hear him sing "Singing in the Heavenly Choir". He promised to sing that song at her funeral as she requested. He did just that and had the entire congregation on their feet. Rev. Hairston, Voight, and Gina, we all have memories of LeBreque. My favorite childhood memory is him playing the drums and Voight playing the piano for the Young Adult Choir at Bennett, yes that was back in the 80's. We are praying for you all. With love and heart felt sympathy, Danielle Jones and Family
