Mrs. Mary Barnett Davis -- soft-spoken, quiet presence, a fierce and powerful prayer warrior for God -- was born November 21, 1935 in Waycross, Georgia, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Ulysses and Lucy Bell Newsome. Mary moved to Miami, Florida at an early age.
In Miami, Mary served as a domestic worker and caregiver for many years. Her life of service in Christ began in the church, The House of Prayer, where she was one of the head cooks for their dining facility. There was humbleness and humility in everything she made, and in every plate served to God's people. It is there she became affectionately known as "Mother" Mary B. Davis, and served on the Mother's Board for twenty years. God saw fit to relieve Mary of her duties at House of Prayer after thirty plus years of service and she joined her sister, Overseer Pastor Lula Mae Dixon, at Lula's ministry, New Jerusalem C.D.F.G.O.O.H., as one of three Church Mothers. Mary proudly served in this capacity for fifteen years.
In the fall of 1953, Mary married Mr. Forest Davis and from this union came three sons: Forest Davis, Jr., Johnny Davis, and William Davis.
Our Loved One heard the Master's Call to come and take her Eternal Rest on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Pruitt Healthcare in Ashburn, Georgia. Her parents, her son William, her siblings, Simon Newsome, Charles Newsome, Nathaniel Newsome, Benny Newsome, Lula Mae Dixon, have all preceded her in death.
Mary leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons, Forest Davis, Jr. of Cordele, Georgia, Johnny (Faye) Davis of Valdosta, Georgia; a daughter-in-law, Angela J. Davis of Jessup, Maryland; four grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Newsome of Warner Robins, Georgia, Rosemary (Jerry) Miller of Thomasville, Georgia; two brothers, Hezekiah (Katie) Newsome of Orlando, Florida, Jimmie (Linda) Newsome of Warner Robins, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
