James Edward “Bull” Gaymon, son of the late Reverend Wallace Gaymon and Marie Thompson Gaymon, was born September 17, 1931 in Clarendon County. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Preston Gaymon, Reverend Rufus Gaymon and Robert Gaymon and three sisters, Catherine Oliver, Camilla Washington and Archie Bell Brown.
He attended and graduated from Scott’s Branch High School, Summerton, South Carolina where he was the Valedictorian of his senior class.
He started his Christian journey at Mt. Hope Fire Baptized Holiness Church where he was a faithful and active member for many years. His Christian journey continued at St. Phillip UME Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and helped with the upkeeping of the church.
After high school, he joined the United States Air Force in 1951 where he served for twenty years and retired in 1971. He received medals for serving in the Korean and Vietnam Wars and good conduct. Upon retiring from the military, he moved and settled in South Carolina where he worked with Durant Construction Company. He also worked with the Athletic Department of Clarendon County School District One and the Clarendon County Recreation Department where he retired after thirteen years.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
He was joined in holy matrimony to Lorena Canty Gaymon and this union was blessed with five children.
On Friday, June 4, 2021, James Edward “Bull” Gaymon departed this earthly life peacefully at McLeod Health Clarendon in Manning, South Carolina.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife of 35 years, Lorena Canty Gaymon of the home; five children: James (Kat) Gaymon, Jr. of Alabama, Adrian Gaymon of Greenville, SC, Melvin Harris of Sumter, SC, Quentin Gaymon of Charlotte, NC and Sanita Gaymon of Pinewood, SC; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren’ three sisters, Maggie Durant of Pinewood, SC, Mary Jackson and Susan Holmes both of Newport News, VA ; two sisters-in-law, Laura Gaymon of Manning, SC and Virgil Gaymon of Pinewood, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Gaymon will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Hayes F. Samuels, Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 North Church St., Manning, SC. Rev. Patrice Dow, officiating, Rev. Lawrence Myers and Rev. James Clark, assisting.
The family is receiving friends from 12:00 Noon til 6:00PM daily at his residence, 1136 Lands End Dr., Pinewood, SC.
