The funeral services for the late Reverend William Henry Leggett, Sr. of 304 Leggett Road, Sycamore, Georgia, who departed this life on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at his residence, will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Westview Memorial Cemetery in Ashburn, Georgia. Services may be viewed Facebook Live from the "Shipps Funeral Home" Facebook page.
Pastor William H. Leggett, Sr. was born September 26, 1951, in Ashburn, Georgia, to the late Mr. Johnny B. Leggett, Sr. and the late Mrs. Beulah Mae Crockett.
William gave his life to Christ and joined the Zion Hope Baptist Church in the late '60s. He served as a member of the choir. In the early 70's, William became ordained as a Deacon at Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church. After a few years as a Deacon, William heeded the call to ministry, and soon preached his Trial Sermon, and became a minister at Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church. He became the Pastor of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in 2003. In 2007, William became the Pastor of Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where he served, taught, and preached until his passing.
William was drafted into the United States Army in the early '70s. After returning from the Army, he worked at the Marine Corps Logistics Base for thirty-three years until he retired. He also served his community and church as: Moderator for the Little River Missionary Baptist Association; Chaplain for American Legion Post #98, Ashburn, Georgia, Turner County Blacks In Government, Artesian Toastmasters, Turner County Sheriff's Office; Bailiff in the Turner County Court System; Chairman for Turner County Corrections, and the First District Association.
On Sunday morning, May 23, 2021, This worker in God's vineyard, this soldier in the Army of the Lord, was called from Labor to Eternal Rest. His parents, his sisters, Mary Pritchard, Barbara Ann Leggett, his brothers, Danny Leggett, Sr., Eugene Leggett, have all preceded him in death.

(Sedette) Leggett of Atlanta, Georgia, Cedrick (Tameika) Leggett, Sr. of Sycamore, Georgia, Iris Weaver of Ashburn, Georgia, Alton (Yontonia) Weaver of Ashburn, Georgia, William "Nick" (Kaylyn) Leggett III of Albany, Georgia; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; his sisters, Virginia (John L.) Smith of Ashburn, Georgia, Shirley (Willie) Past of Columbia, South Carolina, Yvonne Sims of Detroit, Michigan, Jessie Leggett of Ashburn, Georgia, Terrie Sue Leggett of West Palm Beach, Florida; his brothers, Charles (Vicki) Johnson of Ashburn, Georgia, Johnny Leggett, Jr. of Texas, Ricky Leggett of Las Vegas, Nevada; sisters-in-law, Betty Leggett of Sycamore, Georgia, Grace Leggett of Columbia, South Carolina; brother-in-law, John Pritchard of Rochester, New York; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
I am just hearing about Mr. William's passing and I wanted to say how very sorry I am for your loss. He was a wonderful, Godly man and will be sorely missed. I came to know Mr. William through my daddy who considered him a great friend. They worked at Albany MCLB together for years and I came to know him through that friendship. He always had a warm smile and kinds words every time I saw him. I without a doubt know he is with our Lord...healed and made new. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. May God comfort you in the days and months to come and may you have peace that surpasses all understanding.
