Charlie worked 45 years at Wix Filters in Gastonia, NC. After retirement, he worked at Walmart in Belmont, NC as a Greeter. Charlie was married to Delores Hoyle Mills of Gastonia, NC for 64 years. To this union, they had three children. He was a member of Union Baptist Church in York, SC, before moving his membership to Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Gastonia, NC. Charlie was a member of the first black motorcycle club of Gastonia, NC called the Soul Unlimited. He enjoyed his family and friends and loved to rabbit hunt and fish back in the good old days. He loved to ride motorcycles and go dancing. Charlie was a loving man, always bringing smiles to everyone's face he met. He loved cooking fish on Fridays or Saturdays in an old wash pot. He opened his own club called the Sugar Shack, where he cooked fish and provided a place to dance. Charlie had two nicknames; Short-leg and Whoop. Charlie only had a six grade education because they had to walk so many miles to school, but he was smart and could read and write very well.
Charlie was preceded in death by his father and mother; Charlie Mills, Sr. and Isabel Shoats Mills, sisters; Maggie Bell Wright, Rosie Lee Barber, Margaret Grier, Laddie Davis, Annie Burris, Earlene Wright, Doris Carroll and one brother, Joe Mills.
Memories of Charlie are left in the hearts of his wife Delores H. Mills of Gastonia, NC, his first born; Charlene Mills, Musette Punkie Mills Thompson, both of Gastonia, NC, Beverly Mills of Mt. Holly, NC, son; Charles and wife Michelle Mills of Gastonia, NC, his grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be at the funeral Sunday, May 3, 2021 from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
