Obituary For Demetrius Cortee' Dudley

Demetrius Dudley, 51, of Peeples Rd., Oak Ridge, NC, departed this life on Monday, April 5, 2021 at Lenox Hill Hospital, Manhattan, NY. He was born in Virginia on December 7, 1969, the son of Anthony Schoolfield and the late Verneter Dudley Royal.

Demetrius was a graduate of Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY. He was a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Inc., and a member of the Hofstra Athletics Basketball Team.

Demetrius leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Purcell Green-Dudley of the home; one daughter, Skylar Raquel Dudley of Oak Ridge, NC; his father; Anthony (Louise) Schoolfield of Martinsville, VA; two sisters, Monique S. Galloway (Geno) of High Point, NC, and Sonya Kay Nowlin of Eden, NC; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 12, 2021 at 1 p.m. at Carver Memorial Gardens, 2256 Carver Rd., Martinsville, VA, with Pastor Dwight Mack, Eulogist. A public viewing will be held on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. In accordance with the CDC, a face covering, and social distancing is required. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Hairston Funeral Home between the hour of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Its crazy cause my last memory of Meechie was when he was staying at my grandma's house (Josephine's) in Astoria. It was the first time meeting our cousin and we were kids and hearing his semi-high high pitched country accent, my brother and I thought it was hilarious. And he knew it amused us but he was the koolest person we even met! My brother and myself always wanted to be around him, we would always asked about him and Chea would allow us to play her drums and he had no rhythm when it came to playing, lol!!! But I will miss Cuzzo! S.I.P.!!🙏🏿🙏🏿

My friend gone to soon! I got this news and was saddened. You were the best at what you did on the court! I remember those deep three pointers and the form that was so sweet holding that shooting arm up high to let everyone see if they didn't know. LOL We haven't seen each other for years but had some great memories in high school and college.... when we played against each other ...when I was at Central Connecticut.
