Graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. EST (12 noon CST) Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Rest Haven Cemetery Hurtsboro, AL. Visitation is Friday, March 19, 2021 from 1:30-5 p.m.
Mrs. Edna Delois Upshaw-Brooks, daughter of the late Hosea Upshaw, Sr. and Willie Mae Jordan-Upshaw, was born March 29, 1956, in Pittsview, (Russell County) Alabama.
Sis. Brooks confessed Christ and joined the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a devoted member until God called her home. As a devoted member, she served as choir secretary and member. She also served as the church’s assistance secretary and bible study secretary and treasurer for several years. She served on the Board of Directors as secretary for In Home Care and a member of the Special Effort Senior Club. Sis. Brooks graduated from Russell County High School in Hurtsboro, Alabama in 1974. She worked as a seamstress for York Sportswear Company, Inc. in Hurtsboro, Alabama. She also worked for the Russell County School system for over 20 years until she retired.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Richard Brooks in 1976. God blessed this union with two children.
Sis. Brooks was preceded in death by one brother, Nathaniel Upshaw and one sister, Gwendolyn Upshaw Davis.
She leaves to cherish her memories, a loving husband of forty-four years, Richard Brooks of Hurtsboro, Alabama; one son, Tywan Andrew (Mildred) Brooks of Phenix City, Alabama; one daughter, Tasha Renee (Demetrice) Ford of Phenix City, Alabama; two grandchildren Raven Bennett and Bailee Brooks; one brother, Hosea (Lillie) Upshaw, Jr. of Hatchechubbee, Alabama; three sisters, Gloria Loretta Fortson of Montgomery, Alabama; Aretha Austin of Fort Mitchell, Alabama and Jacqueline Upshaw of Hatchechubbee, Alabama; five brothers-in-law, Carlton Salvadore Fortson of Montgomery, Alabama; Thomas (Dorothy) Brooks of Phenix City, Alabama; Eugene (Belinda) Brooks of Bessemer, Alabama, Clarence Tolbert, Sr. of Hurtsboro, Alabama and James Williams of Crawford, AL; six sisters-in-laws, Sharon Renee Upshaw of Crawford, Georgia, Correll (Will) Dawson of Hurtsboro, Alabama; Rosie Lee (Johnny) Hubbard of Phenix City, Alabama; Virgie Stallworth of Chicago, Illinois; Bernice Brooks of Columbus, Georgia and Odessa Brooks of Union Springs, Alabama; two devoted friends Lillie Evans and Mary Brown; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loving relatives and loving friends
