Obituary of Mrs. Lois V. Harvey Daniel Lois V. Harvey Daniel departed this life on Monday, February 22nd, while under the home healthcare of her beloved son and daughter in love, Lorenzo & Eleanor Daniel of Dallas, TX. Lois Daniel has been a resident of Avera, GA for over 85 years. Lois Daniel was born on November 29, 1929, in the village of Matthews, GA. She was the first child born to the late William Harvey and Auldy Patterson Harvey. Lois grew up and worked on the Harvey Family Farm with her siblings and other family members. She was quite intentional about her quest for education and had to catch a train in Avera to attend High School in Wrens. At the age of 16, she matriculated at the Savannah State College in Savannah, GA. Lois Daniel began teaching grades 1 – 3, at the age of 17 (1946) at the Stone Springfield A.M.E. Church School, Stapleton, GA. In the fall of 1947, she became the Head and only teacher at the one-roomed, Tenders Elementary School, Avera, GA, where she taught grades 1- 7 until 1958. In the fall of 1958, she became an instructor at the “New” Tenders Grove Elementary School and became the 3rd grade teacher in this new “Title-One Facility”. She graduated from Fort Valley State College with a B.S. Degree in Education during the summer of 1959. She continued to teach at the Tenders Grove Elementary School until it closed in the spring of 1970. She was employed as a third-grade teacher (top class) at the Wrens Elementary School, Wrens, GA from 1970 until her retirement in 1989. She returned to teaching in 1990 and finally retired again in 1997. She truly enjoyed the years that she served on the Panel Review Board of the Jefferson County Department of Family and Children’s Services (DFCS). She absolutely loved helping people! Lois V. Harvey was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Perry Daniel Jr. in 1951 and were blessed with over 63 years of marriage. They became leaders in the community and role models for many. Lois was a faithful and active member of the Stone Springfield AME Church until she retired to join her “Precious Perry” who had become a new Pastor! As a Pastor’s Wife, Lady Lois supported her husband in his many civic involvements, political endeavors, community accomplishments and his senior pastoral ministry at the Magnolia Baptist Church for over 30 years. Lois was an excellent Bible Teacher and Family Counselor! Without question, Lois was a consummate supporter and encourager for her sons and their families! Other pleasures and highlights of her very involved, “Ever Learning” life included working in her Flower and Vegetable Gardens, canning and freezing fresh veggies, making homemade fruit preserves, and especially “Summers in the Country” for her Nieces, Nephews, and Grandchildren from the City! Mrs. Lois was very health conscious and believed in “Eating Right!” She was preceded in death by her beloved husband in 2013. Those blessed to cherish her memory include her loving and devoted sons, LaVelton (Patricia) Daniel Cincinnati, OH; Lorenzo (Eleanor) Daniel, Dallas, TX; Leon (Mabel) Berry, Wrens, GA; inseparable sisters, Carrie “Freddie” Harvey Coley, St. Albans, NY; Classie Harvey (Lenword) Benefield, Cambria Hts., NY; Betty Jean Patterson Hamblin, Jamaica, NY; a special 1st Cousin, Glennis Virginia Harvey Barnes, White Plains, MD (Lois was only two months older than Glennis) and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, and especially the entire Magnolia Baptist Church, Avera, GA and over a Thousand Third Graders during her 50 Year Teaching Tenure. “Well done, Thou good and faithful servant!
