Obituary For Shirley Ann Youmans

~OBITUARY~

We have gathered today to celebrate the life of a beautiful mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend who has found rest with Jesus. In His own way, and for His own purpose, God, our Father, called the Spirit of His beloved, to be with Him throughout eternity on Monday, February 8, 2021.

Shirley Ann Allen Youmans, the eldest daughter of Deacon David Allen and the late Betty Jean Smith Allen, was born on June 2, 1955 in Hampton County, South Carolina.

Shirley graduated from Ridgeland High School in 1973, and continued her studies at Columbia Commercial College of Business in Columbia, South Carolina. Shirley moved on to live in Washington, D.C. to work for the Federal Government before relocating back to South Carolina to live and work within the Federal Government in various roles and Hargray Communications for over 16 years. Shirley had a passion for learning and was highly accomplished earning several certificates of continued education. Shirley was never a stranger to hard work. Even after retiring, she found joy in working with the Lowcountry Council Governments Office and serving Padgett Branch Baptist Church in different capacities.

Shirley accepted Christ at a young age. She joined Padgett Branch Baptist Church and was an active member serving on the choir and assisting with administrative tasks.

Shirley was blessed with three children, Maurice, Calvin, and Tonisha whom she expressed great pride in to anyone that would listen. She enjoyed visiting and spending as much time with her children, grandchildren, and family as she could. In recent years, she found love and companionship in a special friend, John Darien, whom she cared for dearly.

She loved listening to music, traveling, cooking, working on various craft projects, watching HGTV and DIY programs, and spent as much time with loved ones as she could. Shirley was known to give her last to someone without hesitation. She was a strong and proud woman that led with love. Her contagious spirit, giving soul, and loving personality is why she will be missed most by those who knew and loved her.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory, her three children, Maurice (Stacie) Allen of Atlanta, GA, Calvin (Terri) Allen of Charlotte, NC, and Tonisha (Deon) Jacobs of Columbia, South Carolina; her grandchildren, Chi'nyere Jackson and Kaydian Allen of Charlotte, NC, and Jaxson Jacobs of Columbia, SC and a special friend John Darien of Ridgeland, SC.

She is also survived by her father, Deacon David Allen of Ridgeland, SC, her siblings, Dedrick (Patricia) Allen of Vallejo, CA, Kelvin (Felisa) Allen of Ridgeland, SC, Anita (Jerry) Spells of Pembroke, GA, William (Darrett) Allen of Atlanta, GA, and David Dwayne Allen of Atlanta, GA, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
