A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. EST on Monday, December 7, 2020 at Franchise Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. Raymond Cochran, pastor; Rev. Eddie Short, officiating and Dr. Robert Dickerson, Jr., eulogist. Visitation is Sunday, December 6, 2020 from 1-5 p.m. EST.
Ret. Lt. Steward was born in Tuscaloosa, AL to Doris Nell Steward and the late James Edward Steward, Sr. He graduated from Tuscaloosa High School and earned several degrees in Law Enforcement from different colleges and universities. He dedicated 34 years of his life to Law Enforcement to include the Phenix City Police Department and the Russell County Sheriff Department. After retirement he returned to work at the Russell County Court House.
His survivors include his wife of 34 years, Tenita Steward; children, Phillip (Whittney) Ike, Jamal Henley, Tuscaloosa, AL, Tranika (William) Floyd, Italy, Rekita Steward, Phenix City, AL and Ricky Steward, Jr., Riverdale, GA; his mother, Doris Nell Steward, Tuscaloosa, AL; siblings, Harold Wallace Bell, Augusta, GA, Jerome (Carolyn) Bell, James Edward Steward, Jr., Danny Ray Steward, Janice Steward and Hazel Steward, Tuscaloosa, AL; grandchildren, Keyvon Dawkins, Nevaeh Floyd, Laila Ike, Jace Floyd and De'Ava Steward; several aunts, uncles and a host of other relatives and friends. He is also survived by extended family, his godmother, Barbara Mitchell, godbrother, Curtis (Daphanie) Mitchell and godson, Kete Steward.
