Obituary For Matthew Spivey

Matthew Spivey was born on September 16, 1961 in Fort Pierce, Florida to John Henry Spivey and Grace Mitchell Spivey.

Matt was a lifelong resident of Fort Pierce, Florida and was educated by the public school system of Saint Lucie County. He met and has been married to the love of his life, Sharon Childs, for 32 years and they raised three beautiful children. Matt was employed with the City of Fort Pierce until his health failed. He was also the CEO of Amazing Grace Catering and a part of the devoted staff of Stone Brothers Funeral Home. He was a devoted Husband, Father, Brother, and Friend to all who knew him. He was a member of St. Paul AME Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Patricia S. Wallace.

Matt had a heart of gold and loved his family and friends. He enjoyed and had a passion for cooking and feeding people. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and being a part of the Northside Bat & Ball Little League, Inc. He was a diehard Oakland Raiders’ football fan.

On Saturday, November 7, 2020, our Heavenly father called Matthew from labor to reward. He is preceded in death by his Parents; John Henry Spivey and Grace Spivey; Brothers: Johnny Spivey, Lasella Spivey, Ulyess Spivey, Carl Spivey, Luke Spivey; Sister: Alberta Patterson, Niece: Tonya Washington and Nephew: Willie “Bud” Hammond, III.

Those left to cherish his memories include his Wife: Sharon Spivey; Children: Leonard Childs, Crystal Spivey, Melissa(Jason)Spivey; Grandchildren: Jamauri Johnson, Ahmoni Childs, Jaliyah Johnson, Jayven Johnson, Shamaria Johnson, K-hari Childs, Amarion Porter, Anniyah Porter, Leonard Childs Jr., Treasure Childs; Sisters: Donna(Willie)Hammond, Gena(Jerome)Spivey, Bernice(Sylvester)Spivey; Brothers:Donald(Onvia)Martin, Gerald(Sharon)Pride, Anthony(Catherine)Smith; Mother-in- law: Patreca Beachem ; Father-in-law: Tommy (Emma Jean) Effend; God Sister: Gwendolyn Banner; Sisters-in-law: Annette Spivey, Terry Dixon, Myrtle Rolle-Peterson; Brothers-in-law: Kerwin (TaWanna) Effend, Michael(Maryann Crenshaw)Effend; Aunts: Rosa Lee Coley, Genetta Carter, Juanita Thompkins, Dorothy Spivey, Joan Spivey; Great Aunt: Mary Yarbrough; Nephews and Nieces: Matrecia(Anthony)Phillips, Arvin Washington, Curtis(Sanya)Spivey, Johnna(Michael)Morris, Decreta Meely, LaTonya(Darryl)Counts, Zelda Wright, Michael Spivey, Artura Spivey, Jerome Spivey, Jeronda Benjamin, Charles(Cheryl)Roundtree, LeDravius Roundtree, Levitius(Marissa)Spivey, Keshia Young, Carlton Celestine, Anthony Lamb; Special Friends: Diana Josue, Min. Priscilla Dickey, Reverend James Ward, Bobby Richardson, Mary Riley, Isaac Ancrum, and a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly.

Public visitation for Matthew Spivey will take place on Friday, November 13, 2020 by way of our drive-thru in the rear of Stone Brothers Funeral Home in Fort Pierce, FL. A home going celebration to celebrate his life will convene on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 10:00am at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL. Burial will immediately follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Fort Piercce, FL.

Although many venues have opened and the restrictions of COVID 19 have been relaxed, we here at Stone Brothers Funeral Homes are still enforcing the guidelines set forth by the CDC and FDOH to protect our families and our staff. We ask that you respect this, as it could very well save your life. We also ask that you acknowledge and execute the 6 ft. social distancing guidelines as well.
