Floree Smith

On November 2, 1922, Floree Smith was born to the late Cosby Conerly and Idella Magee Conerly. She departed this life on Saturday, October 3rd at 1:30 p.m. in the comfort of her home in Foxworth, Mississippi.
At an early age Floree joined Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church and accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. As a member of Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church, she served as a Sunday School teacher, choir president and president of the Heroine of Jericho Court #289. Floree remain a faithful member of the church until her health failed.
Floree met and married the love of her life L.C. Smith. Unto this union seven children were born. While being a devoted wife and mother, she attended the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi where she obtained her certification to teach at Pearl River Valley Opportunity, Inc. Hub Head Start Center.
Floree was a pioneer and fearless. She placed her life and safety on the line by being instrumental during the Civil Rights movement. She marched, protested and was a part of the sit-ins for us to have the right to vote. Floree served. Floree served as president of the NAACP for over twenty-five years. She was also, president for the West Pearl River Women’s Association for fifteen years. Floree was preceded in death by her husband, L.C. Smith, four sons, Thomas “TC”, Joe, Andy, and Jessie “Pee Wee”; two daughters, Floretta Smith and Augustine Young; one sister, Annie Husband and Essie McGowan; grandsons, Ronald Smith, Shaun Smith and Ronnie Smith; granddaughter, Denise Bailey, great-grandson, Nijul Ray Broughton
Floree leaves her earthly family to cherish her memories; one son, Willie H. Smith; a grandson that she raised as her very own, James “Ricky” Smith; a very dedicated niece Johnetta Dexter; many grandchildren, great-grands and great-great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousin and friends.
