Lillie Carolyn McNeil Bagley, 80, of Gastonia, North Carolina entered into eternal life on Thursday, September 17, 2015 peacefully in her home. She was born July 29, 1935 in Laurinburg, North Carolina and was the daughter of the late Frank and Roberta Pearson-McNeil.
Lillie graduated from Highland High School in Gastonia, North Carolina “Class of 1953” and attended college at North Carolina A&T and graduated in 1957. In 1957, Lillie relocated to Connecticut to begin her professional career and continue her education. While living in Connecticut, Lillie obtained her Master’s Degree in Education as well as an Education Certificate of Advanced Studies in Leadership from Sacred Heart University. Lillie was a former member of Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church located in New Haven, Connecticut where she was a member of the choir. Being an individual who enjoyed volunteering and being involved in the community, Lillie became a member of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club, Inc.- New Haven City Chapter and was initiated into the Theta Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in 1989. Lillie was an educator for forty-one years and retired from the New Haven Public School System in 2005. After retirement Lillie relocated to Gastonia, North Carolina and became a member of Friendship Christian Church in Gastonia, North Carolina.
Lillie was preceded in death by her daughter, Sabrina Bagley-Reaves; a sister, Annie Ruth Lindsay, and her brother, Lee Artis McNeil.
She leaves to cherish precious memories her devoted husband of fifty-eight years, John “Bill” Bagley, Sr. of the home; children, John A. Bagley Jr. (Gail) of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, Michael K. Bagley, Sr. (Karen) of Hamden, Connecticut, Sterling B. Bagley (Yvonne) of North Branford, Connecticut and Dale A. Williams (Beverly) of Gastonia, North Carolina; eleven grandchildren, Janelle Haines, Lamarr Green, Quentine Green, Dr. Lamarr Bagley, Shaniqua Bagley, Michael Bagley, Jr., Terrence Bagley, Gabriel Bagley, Quan Williams, Clarice Rankins and Seckoya Williams Wade; eleven great grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters, Maxine Johnson of Bloomfield, Connecticut, Alberta Jackson of New Haven, Connecticut, Frankie White (Don) of Hobe Sound, Florida and Betty Lambe of North Haven, Connecticut; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
