Dr. Robert Ricardo Perez, age 88, of Wadley, Georgia transitioned from this life to his heavenly home early Sunday morning, July 5, 2020 after a brief illness. Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Kingdom Life Fellowship Ministries in Wadley, Georgia with masks and social distancing. Dr. Robert Perez was born July 26, 1931 to Sarah Burtnett Perez and Diego Ricardo Perez in Tarrytown, New York. When his family relocated to Mansfield, Ohio, he finished his high school education and found himself occupied in several different careers such as a professional painter, a school teacher, and later a doctor. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish and Latin from Columbia Union College in 1963. With this degree, he became a high school professor teaching Latin and Spanish courses. Later, he completed his medical degree at University Autonoma de Guadalejara in Guadalejara, Mexico December 1972; fulfilling his life-long dream of becoming a physician. After serving as a family physician in Austin, Texas, he relocated to Wadley, Georgia when he learned of the previous physician retiring in 1977. It was not long before Dr. Perez became a household name to many Wadley residents and surrounding counties. In May 1990, he was united in marriage to his soulmate, Betty Cody Perez and enjoyed 30 years of happiness. He was a member of the Augusta First Seventh Day Adventist Church of Augusta, Georgia where he faithfully attended for over 20 years. Due to health issues, he retired from his Family Medical Practice after 39 years in October 2017. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother and father, his brother, Diego Perez, Jr, his sister, Christina Perez Leach and his two sons Robert Perez, Jr. and David Perez. He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife, Betty, his beloved mother-in-law, Annie Mason of Wadley, GA, his stepchildren Natasha (Alfred) Parker, Louisville, GA; Harold (Miranda) Moore, Wadley, GA; Gabriel (Tiffany) Moore, Augusta, GA; Kimberly (Samuel) Cherry; Louisville, GA; Jermain (Tori) Washington; Swainsboro, GA and his stepchildren of Austin, Texas, Maggie Garcia, Juanita Godusky, Cindy Selvera, Bobby Campos and Stevie Campos, his sisters-in-laws; Rev. Dr. Catherine (Varick) Braswell, Linda (Rev. Dr. John) Harmon, Edna Cody, Jacqueline (Min. Timothy) Hicks; his brothers-in-laws, Willie James Gibbons, Kelvin (Regina) Cody, grandchildren: Jordan Parker, Jaylen Parker, Jaedon Parker, Christian Moore, Caleb Moore, Kennedi Moore, Micah Moore, Matthew Moore, Emmanuel Cherry, Jeona Washington, Jermain Washington, Jr., Jada Washington, Justin Washington, Michael Selvera; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, God-children, other relatives, and a community of adoring patients and friends.
