Irene was born to the late Ada Carter Garlick Joshua and Joseph Garlick on May 18, 1941. She joined the Gethsemane Baptist Church at an early age. She was married to the late Leslie L. Kenney Sr. Irene resided in Richmond for many years, upon returning to King William she rejoined her home church of Gethsemane where she was a faithful member until her health began to fail.
Irene retired from National Linen Service after 20 plus years of being employed there. She would later become a CNA for Americare, where she became the caretaker of Mrs. Ruth Robinson for six years. They became dear friends during this time and shared many special times together. Irene was very fond of cats and enjoyed feeding any that would come into her yard. She also enjoyed thrift store shopping, cooking and watching the Washington Redskins.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Ada and Joseph; her husband, Leslie Kenney Sr.; two sisters, Maria Roane and Lucille Garlick and a son, Anthony Garlick.
Irene leaves to cherish her fond memories: two daughters, Lillie Doles of Hanover, VA, and Gloria Garlick of Richmond, VA; three sons, Edward (Iris) Garlick of Norfolk, VA, Harvey Garlick of Hanover,VA and Leslie Kenney, Jr. of Richmond, VA; two brothers, Joe Garlick of King William, VA and Carroll (Jacqueline) Joshua of Columbus, GA; seven grandchildren, Latrice (Canaan) Robinson, Edward Garlick, Jr., Brittany King, Linda (Gregory) Brown, Tquarius Norwood, and Camisha Young; nine great grandchildren; devoted friend, Mrs. Ruth Robinson; special friend, Sheila King; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A walk-through viewing will be held 1 - 8 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2020 at Wilson & Associates' Funeral Service - East Chapel, 5008 Nine Mile Rd., Richmond, VA.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Pilots Lane, Richmond, VA.
The family has entrusted final arrangements to Wilson & Associates' Funeral Service - East Chapel, 5008 Nine Mile Rd., Richmond, VA.
