Ms. Elease Brooks, 65, of 2511 Wildwood Drive Shelby, NC passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 in Shelby, NC. She was born on July 27, 1954 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Robert Brooks and Estelle Thompson Brooks.
Elease was a graduate of Crest High School and earned an Associate’s degree from Cleveland Community College. She did further study at Gardner Webb University. Her employment included working as a computer programmer with Carolina Freight and as a teacher at both No. 3 Township and Graham Elementary Schools.
Elease in her younger years was a member of Ellis Chapel Baptist Church where she served in the missionary department, usher board, vacation bible school and was a van driver for the youth choir. Her pastimes included traveling, sewing, shopping and she loved children and she loved her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael Brooks; a brother, Willie Brooks; two sisters, Elizabeth Edwards and Olivia Tate and a granddaughter, Sophia Estelle Hopper.
She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Kia Anise Brooks of Shelby; four brothers, Rev. Larry Brooks, Johnny Brooks (Julie), Joe Brooks and Glenn Brooks all of Shelby and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Due to recent coronavirus state guidelines limiting the size of gatherings, the service for Ms. Brooks will be private. She may be viewed on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at Ellis Chapel Baptist Church from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM with a reception of friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the church.
Dear Family, I'm so sorry for your loss. I attended Crest High School with Elease and remember her as sweet, kind, and fun to be around. It was good to see her at our last class reunion. Ms. Brooks worked for Head Start with me for several years. She was also Teacher Assistant for my son when he was in Head Start. He loved her and she did a great job. She was a hard worker and fun to be around. She will be missed. Thoughts and prayers will be with the family during this difficult time. Patti Norman
