A CELEBRATION OF THE LIFE OF DOROTHY JARRETT LEE

September 24, 1925 - April 7, 2020

Dorothy Mildred Jarrett Lee was born to the Reverend Joseph B. Jarrett and Jadie Minniefield Jarrett on September 24, 1925 in Montgomery, Alabama, the youngest of six children. She attended Loveless School, Alabama State College Lab High School and Alabama State College, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in 1947, and her Master’s Degree in English in 1950. She began her teaching career in Brundidge, Alabama at Pike County Training School.

In 1959 she married Albert F. Lee and from this union came her three children: sons Alan Jarrett Lee, Derek Bennett Lee and daughter Teri Naomi Lee.

She continued her teaching career at Elizabeth City State College, Elizabeth City, North Carolina as English Instructor; at Voorhees College, Denmark, South Carolina as Assistant Professor of English and ending her teaching career with Montgomery Alabama Public Schools.

She was preceded in death by her parents Rev. Joseph and Jadie Jarrett and her siblings Joshua Jarrett, Melvyn C. Jarrett, M.D., Sallie Ruth Jarrett George, Naomi Jarrett Rhodes, and Joseph Benjamin Jarrett, Jr.

Dorothy Jarrett Lee leaves her cherished and devoted children: sons Alan Jarrett Lee, Derek Bennett (Bonita) Lee and daughter Teri Naomi (Lawrence, Jr.) Thompson; her loving and beautiful grandchildren, Lauren T. Thompson, Lawrence H. Thompson, III, Chloe M. Lee and Keren D. Lee; the children and family of Andrew and Marvin Jarrett-Michelle Jarrett Stewart and family, Annette Whittington Jarrett and family of Chicago, Illinois; the children and family of Reese Jarrett-Will Foster and Donna Foster Jarrett, Tony Jarrett, Myra Jarrett and Reba Baldwin of Temecula, California; the children and family of Walter Jarrett- Vivian Boyd, Gregory Jarrett and Patrick Jarrett; dedicated friend and neighbor Mrs. Jerelene Savage Thomas, friends Mrs. Edna C. Madison, the Means family- Linda, Pearlie, Wanda, Nettie and Michelle; Mrs. Camilla Dumas and family of Headland, Alabama, Mrs. Ella Pearl Howard and family of Pike Road, Alabama, Mr. Charlie Caffey of Brundidge Alabama, and each of the Pike County Training School Alumni, and a host of other family and loved ones.

A devout Christian, Dorothy was a loyal and long-time member of Lilly Baptist Church, shepherded by Pastor Thomas E. Jordan.
